Tauranga Urology Research Ltd was established in 1992 by Peter Gilling and Mark Fraundorfer. They have a strong interest in urology research, and have introduced many new surgical techniques and devices into New Zealand practice, particularly the use of the Holmium laser. The procedure of the Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP) was developed by Peter and Mark and has been adopted and used around the world.
Peter Gilling is the Prinicipal Investigator who oversees all clinical trials conducted. The site has experience in Phase II - Phase IV studies and has participated in several FDA studies. Trials have ranged from single-centre to multi-centre, pilot to multinational studies and have included pharmaceutical and device studies.
